Family Charter
1. Who We Are
We are the Johnson family, playing, learning, and growing together through chess. For now, Mom and Dad fill all the “official” roles. If things go well and grow bigger, we may invite others to join and take on new roles in the future.
2. Our Purpose
The heart of Johnson Chess is simple:
- To support our kids’ love for chess.
- To make sure they have opportunities to learn, compete, and enjoy the game.
- To celebrate chess as a family activity that builds skills, discipline, and fun memories.
3. What We Do
- Set aside family resources (time, money, effort) to cover things like coaching, tournaments, and travel.
- Look for creative ways to raise funds when needed.
- Encourage each other, win or lose.
- Build a family culture where chess is part of our bonding, learning, and growing.
4. Membership (for now)
Right now, membership = Mom, Dad, and the kids. That's it. In the future, we may open up to grandparents, relatives, friends, coaches, or other supporters.
5. How We Run Things
- Mom and Dad handle decisions, finances, and logistics (acting as chairperson, secretary, and treasurer all rolled into one).
- The kids get a say in planning events, tournaments, and family chess goals — this is for them, after all!
- If we grow later, we'll create proper roles and let others help.
6. Family Meetings
We'll keep it simple:
- We chat as a family to plan chess activities (like which tournaments to attend or when to schedule practice).
- Once a year, we'll look back at what we achieved and dream about what's next.
- If things get bigger, we might introduce proper “AGMs” or invite more voices in.
7. Finances
- Any money we set aside or raise is only for chess-related activities (coaching, travel, tournaments, equipment).
- Mom and Dad keep track of expenses.
- Nobody profits personally — it's all about supporting our kids' chess journey.
8. Changes to This Charter
Since it's just us right now, changes can be made by simple family agreement. If Johnson Chess grows in the future, we'll create more formal rules for updates.
9. If We Stop
If we ever stop running Johnson Chess, anything left over (like funds or equipment) should go toward another kid-focused chess or education project.
